Students are led out of Aztec High School after a shooting in Aztec, New Mexico. (Jon Austria /The Daily Times via AP)Two students were killed after gunfire erupted early Thursday at a New Mexico high school, according to police. The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office said the person believed to have opened fire at Aztec High, a school of about 1,000 students near the Colorado border, is also dead. As authorities continued to piece together what unfolded at the high school, Martinez said the state education department would send $120,000 to the high school to pay for counselors, social workers and extra security in the wake of the violence. The shooting took place a week before the fifth anniversary of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., the deadliest school shooting in U.S. history.
