The deceased were identified as oil trader Mohibul Islam Nipu, a resident of 5 no ward of Chowmuhani municipality, and his employee Rohomot Ullah from Darbesh bazar. Khaled Hasan, who sustained 70 burn injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka. Regarding the incident, Suburnachar Fire Service and Civil Defence In-Charge Md Nurunnabi said the fire had originated from the shop of the deceased Mohibul Islam Nipu. "A total of 4 units of firefighters brought the fire under control after two hours' frantic efforts. Md Jamsed, president of Chaimanghat bazar traders association , said the fire gutted at least 16 shops which caused a loss of around Tk2 crore to the traders.
