Two people were killed and one was injured in the attack. The deceased were identified as Mansur Alam, 17, resident of Kona Para of Chaikshyang union, and Nurul Kabir, 18, resident of Mannan Member Para. Police told Dhaka Tribune that the elephant came down Meraithang Hill and entered Futerjhiri in Mannan Member Para, when the locals surrounded it and chased it with fire. A group of elephants moved to Ruposi Para and then to Mannan Member Para on December 27. Later, when the forest department and locals tried to chase them away, they moved towards Meraithang Hill.
