2 booming thunderstorms crash through and soak southern Manitoba

A pair of storms rolled across southern Manitoba Wednesday night and into Thursday morning, likely waking up many people with a cannonade of booming thunder. The second storm increased those amounts on average by 15-20 mm across the city, according to Environment Canada meteorologist Shannon Moodie. The highest total in the province fell in the Great Falls area, northeast of Winnipeg, which received 73 mm. The two storms brought more rain than Winnipeg typically gets for the entire month of September, according to CBC meteorologist John Sauder. So far, 87.4 mm has fallen in Winnipeg, according to Weatherlogics, a weather research firm.
