MANILA, Philippines — Two fake brokers have been arrested for extorting money from Bureau of Customs (BOC) stakeholders, authorities said Thursday. Both were arrested during a joint entrapment operation conducted by operatives of the BOC’s Intelligence Group and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Monday, May 20. The BOC’s Intelligence Group coordinated with NBI’s special action unit to plan out the entrapment and arrest the suspects. Investigation revealed the two suspects were not Customs officers but fake brokers suspected of extorting money from BOC stakeholders. “We will not tolerate extortion and all forms of corruption in the Bureau,” BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero said in a statement.
