Two civilians were killed in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Tuesday and several others were injured when security forces battling militants opened fire on a group of stone-pelting protesters, police said. A gun-battle between militants and security forces were on in the Chadoora area, a police official said. The operation turned into a gunbattle after militants opened fire on the security forces, the official added. Even as the security forces were trying to flush out the militants, a large number of protesters started pelting stones at the law enforcing agencies, forcing them to retaliate. “The security forces were fired at after they cordoned off Durbugh village,” the spokesman said.
