LA TRINIDAD, Benguet: Surgeons from Metro Manila and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) performed a successful kidney transplant in a five-hour operation on a female patient at the Cordillera Hospital of the Divine Grace (CHDG) here late last month. Last October 30, Doctor Philip Walsien, a private medical practitioner based at the CHDG, said it was the first kidney transplant done at the hospital and the first performed in the administrative region. He said the kidney donor was a 51-year-old female from La Trinidad, who is the mother of the 31-year-old female recipient. Walsien said two of the surgeons, who performed the kidney transplant, were from Metro Manila and the rest were from the Cordillera. The Cordillera Hospital of the Divine Grace, the first private hospital in the capital town of La Trinidad, receives patients from various parts of the region.
