The driver of the vehicle, a Traveller, and three children are reported to be in critical condition and are under treatment at Zydus hospital. Of the 19 children, 13 were taken to Zydus while the remaining were moved to Sola Civil Hospital. According to Changodar police, the Traveller was ferrying kids from Bavla to their school when the truck made a sudden U-turn and collided with it. Though the driver of the truck fled soon after the accident, he later surrendered at the police station. The police have identified the truck driver as Kalubhai, aka Jamalbhai Pathan, 35, a resident of Chhatral village in Kalol.
