In an otherwise uneventful Spring Training game on March 24, 2001 between the San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks, Hall of Famer Randy Johnson did something fowl. The timing was too perfect, and in the end, well… shocking, tragic, crazy… you pick the superlative, history was made. At the time, Spring Training games were not broadcast as they are today, and if not for Diamondbacks video coordinator Jim Currigan, the whole thing would have never been captured on tape. Eventually, a groundskeeper removed the bird, and Johnson, who is a conservationist, wasn’t happy about the whole thing. Where the event became a media sensation, it became something very serious for Johnson.
