KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 159 juveniles have been detained under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 (Poca) and the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) 2012. “A total of 17 children were detained under Sosma from when the law was gazetted and came into force on June 22, 2012. “Under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959, 142 children were detained, while (no child was) detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2015 (Pota),” said Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister. Zahid also confirmed that a 16-year-old, held under Poca, is still in police custody. Santiago had asked Zahid about the number of children detained under the acts, and the whereabouts of the 16-year-old in question.
