At least 15 people have been killed and 50 more sustained burn injuries when a boiler of a garment packaging factory exploded in Tongi of Gazipur on Saturday morning, Tongi Hospital and Gazipur fire service sources said. Dr Md Parvez Mia, a residential surgeon of 50-bed Tongi Government Hospital, confirmed the casualties to the Dhaka Tribune. Seven of the deceased have been identified as security guards Abdul Hannan and Jahangir Hossain, packaging operator Rafiqul Islam, shit in-charge Shuvas Chandra, generator operator Anisur Rahman, floor operator Idris Ali and cleaner Shangkar Sarkar. The fire erupted after a boiler of Tempako Packaging Factory blasted at 6:15am in Bisic industrial area of Tongi, said Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Akhtaruzzaman. The identities of those killed could not be confirmed yet.
