BIWTA's drive to demolish illegal establishments on and evict encroachers from the bank of Buriganga River in Dhaka continued on Wednesday Mahmud Hossain Opu/Dhaka TribuneEarlier, 1,199 illegal established were demolished in the first and second phases of the driveBangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) demolished 124 additional illegal structures along the Buriganga River in Kamrangirchar area of Dhaka on Wednesday, the second day of the third-phase of its eviction drive. The dismantled establishments included 11 two-storey and six one-storey buildings from Kholamorghat to Jhauchar. On Thursday, the eviction drive will continue from Jhauchar to Basila. On Tuesday, the BIWTA had pulled down 118 illegal structures. Earlier, 1,199 illegal established were bulldozed along Buriganga River in the first and second phases of the drive, thus reclaiming 10 acres of riverbanks, said a Shipping Ministry statement.
