12 Cafgu, 2 soldiers taken as hostages by NPABy DEMPSEY REYEShome/News/Regions/12 Cafgu, 2 soldiers taken as hostages by NPATwelve members of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) and two soldiers were taken as hostages by the New People’s Army (NPA) in Sibagat, Agusan del Sur, the Philippine Army confirmed on Wednesday. Maj. Gen. Ronald Villanueva, commander of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division, confirmed the incident, sending a report that the NPA rebels that took the soldiers and militiamen were under the Sub-Regional Sentro de Gravidad Westland. The hostage-taking transpired on Wednesday at around 3 a.m., wherein around 50 NPA rebels raided the New Tubigon Patrol Base in Sibagat and took away a number of firearms. Villanueva also said they were conducting investigation on why such incident took place despite the heightening of its alert statuses. He, however, clarified that no firefight transpired during the incident that took place at dawn.
