Two Otago schools are to be redeveloped at a combined cost of around $11 million, it was announced today. Associate Education Minister Tim Macindoe said the schools - Maniototo Area School in Ranfurly and Lawrence Area School - both had buildings ''which are generally in poor condition and affected by issues such as weathertightness''. Maniototo Area School would receive about $7 million and Lawrence Area School $4 million. ''This $11 million investment comes on top of $37 million announced for new classrooms and school redevelopments in the Otago-Southland region last year,” Mr Macindoe said. The Ministry of Education and the schools would work together over the next two years to develop plans for the new facilities.
