JOHOR BARU: Johor Department of Environment (DOE) has issued a total of 115 compounds to factories operating near Sungai Sembrong in Kluang during a special operation. “As part of efforts to safeguard the precious resource, DOE carried out an operation over two days, focusing on premises operating along Sungai Sembrong, ” he said here on Monday. He pointed out that 26 order notices were issued for various offences under the Environmental Quality Act 1974 Act while the department also issued 115 compounds of RM2,000 each to the premises. Vidyananthan said the department always viewed pollution cases seriously, in particular at Sungai Sembrong as it would affect the Orang Asli community there. “The state DOE will continue carrying out enforcement and monitor industries that release waste into Sungai Sembrong or any other rivers within Kluang, ” he added.
