Eleven steel mill workers were burned severely when a furnace exploded in their factory in Chittagong on Tuesday morning. A furnace at the steel re-rolling factory owned by GPH Ispat Ltd at Chotokumira in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong exploded around 4am, said Iftekhar Hasan, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda police station. Their condition is critical and needs advanced treatment immediately.”There have been no explanations about the blast from the authorities as yet. Almas Shimul, director and additional managing director of GPH Ispat, could not be reached over phone after repeated tries. However, Mohammad Osman Goni, media advisor of GPH Ispat, told the Dhaka Tribune that the explosion occurred after midnight and caused severe injury to the workers.
