11 officers say no to higher courses

In a sign of military officers increasingly opting to leave service at mid-level, 11 officers of Colonel rank have expressed their unwillingness to attend the Higher Command (HC) and Higher Defence Management Courses (HDMC), Defence sources said on Tuesday. “Four officers expressed unwillingness due to personal issues and the others for other reasons,” a source said. One of the major reasons is that those going for the courses cannot leave service for the next five years. This is not palatable for those officers not promoted to the next rank and wish to leave service. The HC course starts in June and the HDMC in April.
