The best expository essay was written by Andrea Uriarte, while the first runner-up was Angel Poricallan. In the college level, Mike Tandugon won best narrative essay, with Naomi Padrelanan as first runner-up. In the persuasive category, Jamaica Marciano won first prize, Anthony Cirilo was first runner-up, Louise del Rosario was second runner-up and Datumama Santi Tutin was third runner-up. Judges of the contest were Ramon Avancena High School Principal Danilo Estavillo, journalist Stanley Gajete and The Manila Times columnist Tita Valderrama.
