10C EU support for flood victims

File photo: Floodwater has inundated a village at Louhajang upazila in Munshiganj, making access to food and safe water extremely difficult for the villagers. The fund will be dedicated to addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of over two million people who are in need of food assistance, water, sanitation, hygiene and emergency shelter, EU delegation in Bangladesh said on Tuesday. Some 850,000 remain displaced, a figure expected to increase as rains continue, it said. The EU, a bloc of 27 European countries, also allocated about Tk 5 crore for the flood victims in India and nearly Tk 1.5 crore for Nepal. “Focusing on the worst affected countries, we are providing the means for people to survive through this difficult time so that they can get back on their feet as soon as possible,” she added.
