101-year old female veteran from Fallbrook recalls WII service


Gilby turned 101 earlier this year and is one of the few local female World War II veterans left to tell her story and one of the oldest. In October 1943, Gilby helped set up the 70th General hospital in tents near Oran in Northern Africa. Because there was a war, he signed up.”Her father served during World War I. For generations her family had served in wars from the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812 and the Civil War, to World War I. The book’s editor is Charlotte Seidman, who served as an army nurse in Vietnam during the war.
