100 shops gutted in Chittagong fire


At least 100 shops were gutted as a fire broke out in a market in Chittagong’s City Gate area beside Dhaka-Chittagong highway on Friday morning. Operator of Agrabad fire service control room Sarwer Jahan said the fire broke out in the market around 8:30am. The fire gutted at least 100 shops, including 15 furniture shops, and an ATM booth of Dutch Bangla bank. Mahbub Rashid, owner of a furniture shop of the market, alleged that a powerful group had been trying long for evicting the shop owners from the area. According to the affected shop owners, the estimated loss would be around Tk30 crore.
