About 108 are facing charges for involvement in politics and 24 are facing prison time. There are 98 political prisoners in various prisons in Myanmar. The prisoners are being charged under the telecommunications law 66(d) and criminal laws historically used against political and workers’ rights activists. “There are still political prisoners and some are facing trials. There have been improvements on human rights, but there are still weaknesses,” said Tate Naing secretary of AAPP.
