100 HK residents on Diamond Princess could be infected with virus


The Diamond Princess now in Yokohama, Japan, is operated by Carnival Corp's Princess Cruises. Microbiologist Dr Ho Pak-leung says since the Diamond Princess cruise ship is contaminated, those returning have a 10 to 30 percent chance of getting infected with the new coronavirus. Previous NextMicrobiologist Ho Pak-leung warned today that local hospitals should be prepared because as many as 100 Hong Kong people on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship could be diagnosed with the new coronavirus after their return, RTHK reports. Ho criticized Japanese authorities for failing to contain the spread of the virus in the beginning, after a 80-year-old former passenger from Hong Kong was diagnosed with the disease. He added that as many as 70 people infected on board the vessel have been asymptomatic.
