Despite the conflicting perceptions of persons with Albinism, 79 per cent of Kenyans think they are the same as everyone else, and seven out of 10 think persons with albinism need to be cared for. One in 10 Kenyans think that persons with albinism have supernatural powers, a report has said. The findings released by Twaweza, to mark International Albinism Day, show that a further 16 per cent of Kenyans do not know whether persons with albinism have these powers or not. Two out of 20 believe that people with albinism experience discomfort. Twaweza East Africa Director, John Mugo, attributed this to the prejudice and isolation persons with albinism experience in some parts of the country.
