NAIROBI, Kenya ( Associated Press) — Two airstrikes struck the capital of Ethiopia’s Tigre region on Wednesday morning, killing 10 people, many of whom were first responders, the director of the city’s Aydar Referral Hospital said. For its part, the Ethiopian government showed no signs of accepting the offer of the Tigrayan forces to stop fighting and continue negotiations. The target in Mekele was “a residential neighborhood,” Kibrom Gebreselassie told the Associated Press. However, the Ethiopian federal government has yet to publicly react amid reports of further talks between the two sides in Djibouti. There have been several airstrikes on Mekele since fighting resumed between Tigre and Ethiopian forces in late August, breaking a period of relative peace since late March.
