At least 10 people have been killed and 20 more sustained burn injuries when a fire broke out at a packaging factory in Tongi of Gazipur on Saturday morning, Tongi Hospital sources said. Md Parvez Mia, a residential doctor of 50-bed Tongi Government Hospital, confirmed the casualties to the Dhaka Tribune. The bodies of 10 people were kept in the hospital while 20 burn injured people were rushed to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said the residential physician, adding that the death toll may increase. The fire erupted due to boiler explosion at Tempako Packaging Factory in the early hours of Saturday, said Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Akhtaruzzaman. The identities of those killed could not be confirmed as of updating this report at 9:25am.
