Just yesterday, President Trump called for federal government agencies to stop all anti-racism training sessions and called anti-racism training, “un-American.” About a month ago, an article in the New York Times magazine also questioned the efficacy of antiracism training for organizations. Given the evidence that Black workers face discrimination in pay, asking for salary history only serves to compound and entrench the problem. The second step is to determine the various reasons diverse employees are leaving your organization. It’s not enough to recruit diverse talent, it’s also about fully including those diverse employees in the workplace. In sum, racial equity is not something that can be easily achieved via a single one-day retreat for antiracism training.
