ADDIS ABABA – At least 10 people were killed in two subsequent car accidents in the Silte Zone of southern Ethiopia. The fatal road crashes involving two midsize trucks and a rickshaw occurred in the Western Azerinet district around 10:00 p.m. Friday, the Silte Zone communication bureau. The first truck on the way to Hosanna from Wolkite crashed head-on with a rickshaw at a junction known as Deje. All the passengers in the rickshaw immediately died while the driver sustained a relatively minor injury. Nine people were pronounced dead at the scene and several others sustained severe injuries in both road crashes, according to the Silte Zone communication bureau.
