One police officer has died and another had to undergo surgery after being shot in a San Diego neighbourhood, authorities said early Friday. The San Diego Police Department gave an update on the officers on its Twitter account, saying the second officer was out of surgery and is expected to survive. The shooting comes with law officers around the country on alert following the killing of officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge, La., this month. There was no immediate word on what touched off the violence, which occurred around 11 p.m. PT Thursday in the southeastern part of town. Video footage showed officers out in force with numerous squad cars with emergency lights flashing lining a street, officers on foot, and a helicopter buzzing overhead.
