Dr. Timnit Gebru called on the world to take notice of the humanitarian crisis and atrocities that have been committed in Ethiopia’s northern Tigray region when she spoke at a May 16 graduation commencement for the University of California in Berkeley. “There’s currently a genocide in Ethiopia. There is a civil war accompanied by a genocide. It’s an estimated 500,000 people have perished in the last 18 months in the northern state of Tigray,” said Dr. Gebru.
