Kotoko go into the match on a 8-match winless run which began with the 1-0 to Hearts of Oak in March. They went to draw goalless with Inter Allies, lose 2-1 to Medeama, draw goalless with Dwarfs, lose 1-0 to Wa All Stars and draw 1-1 with Aduana Stars. After the draw with Dwarfs, head coach, Dravko Logarusic was fired leading to the appointment of Godwin Ablordey as interim head coach and Frimpong Mansao was brought in as technical advisor. Manso said after the team’s 3-1 loss to Hearts in the first leg of the ‘Ghana At 60 Years’ that the Porcupine Warriors would eventually get back to winning ways.
