“Heavy Snow Risk” on the Map for Maryland in Early March, but NBC4’s Amelia Draper Says Odds Are SlippingThe National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center has included most of Maryland in a “Slight Risk of Heavy Snow” zone for the period of March 2nd through March 8th, putting early March on the radar for potential winter weather. That outlook, however, is being met with some skepticism locally. She also noted that meteorological spring begins Sunday, March 1st, with astronomical spring following on March 20th. She also referenced the upcoming cherry blossom forecast expected during the first week of March, which typically aligns more closely with springlike conditions than winter storm threats. However, with a higher sun angle and generally warmer temperatures, it becomes increasingly difficult for our area to capitalize on a meaningful winter storm setup. We will continue monitoring the National Weather Service outlook, along with any short-term systems that could come close later this week.
