The Pontifical Foundation, “Aid to the Church in Need”, is warning that hundreds of people are being killed in the conflicts in Ethiopia’s Tigray region and that shops, schools, churches and convents are being looted and destroyed. By Vatican News staff reporterIsolation and lack of communication may be screening ongoing atrocities in Ethiopia’s Tigray region. The Tigray region, whose capital is Mekele, is the most northern region of Ethiopia and borders Eritrea and Sudan. About 95 per cent of the population are Christians belonging to the Ethiopian Coptic Orthodox Church and belong to the Tigray ethnic group. Sources say hundreds of people are being killed while shops, schools, churches, convents and homes are being looted and destroyed.
