Last year was the “worst year on record” for public bodies failing to make a decision in time on freedom of information (FoI) requests. Public bodies, it emerged, failed to respond in a timely manner to FoI requests both at the initial stage and internal review stage. “That is an unacceptably high level,” said Mr Tyndall when he launched his annual report for 2017 yesterday. Since the increase in demand we have not seen a commensurate increase in the capacity of public bodies to deal with the requests they are receiving,” he said. Mr Tyndall said records held by the GSOC are excluded from the act so they could conduct their investigations in confidence.
