VANCOUVER—Podcasters are regularly criticized for what they have to say, but women are also being attacked for how they say it. Women-led podcasts are rife with negative reviews online, lamenting the supposedly un-listenable tone of the host’s voice. Voices distinguished by “upspeak” or “vocal fry,” two traits commonly associated with young women, will stick out.
