The challenge was posed on Wednesday by Dante Ang 2nd, the chief executive officer of The Manila Times, at the graduation of 34 on-the-job trainees of The Manila Times College (TMTC) Internship Program. Ang cited the need for “professional” journalists with the advent of fake news and the competition that newspapers face from social media. Ang offered the graduates jobs as correspondents for The Manila Times, the country’s oldest English-language newspaper. The TMTC offers the Journalism Plus internship every quarter.
