Jerry Brown vetoed legislation that would have eliminated sales tax on feminine hygiene products. Our tax code needs to reflect the fact that it’s not okay to tax women for being born women. She argues that feminine hygiene products should not be taxed, just as food and prescription medications aren’t. In Florida, a Tampa woman filed a lawsuit to repeal the state’s sales tax on tampons. She also pointed to an alleged double standard: Rogaine, which treats baldness for men, is exempt from sales tax, while tampons aren’t.
