‘The helmet definitely saved me’: Deer runs into cyclist during Dublin triathlon

When cyclists race each other at high speeds you expect the occasional crash, but not like this. One competitor was knocked off his bike in Dublin’s Phoenix Park during the cycling portion of a triathlon over the weekend when he was struck by a deer trying to jump over him. Shane O’Reilly, who had 10 kilometres left to bike at the time, told Irish broadcaster RTE he was left with a cracked helmet. Apart from that my shoulder was a bit sore and had a headache.”Photographer Erik Scraggs captured the moment on camera. The deer is also believed to be okay.
