‘The best race of my life’: Alex Harvey serves notice to PyeongChang medal hopefuls with world cross-country gold

Alex Harvey conserved his energy this week with an eye to winning the biggest race of them all at the world cross-country ski championships. The Canadian executed the game plan to perfection by claiming the world title in the men’s 50-kilometre race in Lahti, Finland. Somehow, after churning his legs for one hour, 46 minutes, 28.9 seconds, Harvey remained standing at the finish line and celebrated by riffing on an air guitar. The world champion won the race by six-tenths of a second over Russia’s Sergey Ustiugov. “This is the best race of my life, for sure,” Harvey said.
