Written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, the film is was inspired from the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein, which was based on Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein. Set in 1930s Chicago, ‘The Bride’ unravels the story of groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious who brings a murdered young woman back to life to be a companion for Frankenstein’s monster. Speaking from the afterlife, Mary Shelley says she has a story she wanted to tell after Frankenstein, but could not due to her death.
