“Thanks, but no thanks,” said Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah when asked about the offer. Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos, in making the offer earlier, said he would get his men to help out if Bersih 2.0 agreed to rally in any stadium of their choice such as the Shah Alam Stadium. This follows the rejection of his group’s application to hold a rally at Dataran Merdeka and Padang Merbok. Asked when the Red Shirts would hold their “mega demo” or mass demonstration against the Bar Council, Jamal declined to give the date and time, saying it would be held soon at a suitable venue. The Red Shirts are reportedly planning to protest against the Bar Council for receiving a grant from the Open Society Foundations (OSF) linked to billionaire George Soros.
