That year, Alberta ranked third-worst in the country for the number of police-reported impaired driving incidents, behind only Saskatchewan and Prince Edward Island. Starting in September, 2012, the province toughened impaired driving laws by imposing three-day licence suspensions on drivers caught with a blood alcohol level of between .05 and .08.
