An Edmonton-area Original Joe’s restaurant is being lauded online for its unofficial practice of leaving thank you notes on vehicles that have been left overnight in its parking lot. “Our job is to protect people in the building.”Canada has the worst rate of impaired driving fatalities among wealthy countries. In 2011, there were 121 incidents of impaired driving causing death in Canada, and another 839 incidents of impaired driving causing bodily harm. That year, Alberta ranked third-worst in the country for the number of police-reported impaired driving incidents, behind only Saskatchewan and Prince Edward Island. Starting in September, 2012, the province toughened impaired driving laws by imposing three-day licence suspensions on drivers caught with a blood alcohol level of between .05 and .08.
