more-inTamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam on Monday submitted a petition at the weekly grievances redress meeting at the District Collectorate urging the State Government to stop construction of check dams across River Bhavani by Kerala Government. The petition said that Kerala Government has already constructed two check dams across the river at Thekkuvattai and Manjakkadi. According to the petitioners, Kerala Government was at present constructing check dams at Padavayal, Cheerakkadavu, and Salaiyoor, which will cut short share of water to Coimbatore, Tirupur, and Erode. The association demanded the State Government to hold talks with Kerala Government to stop construction of check dams as it would lead to acute water shortage in Kongu region. The residents met the district collector on Monday and asked her to order the closure of the shop.
