‘Surge of users’ overwhelms Alberta’s online cannabis retail site minutes after legalization

EDMONTON—It didn't take long for cannabis users waiting to make their first online purchase to learn that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Cannabis consumers looking to purchase legal product on the province's non-medical cannabis store, albertacannabis.org, found themselves in a long queue once the website went online shortly after midnight, or weren't able to load it at all. Many visitors to the AGLC's online pot retailing site couldn't load the site or received this wait message just after midnight on legalization day. She said the AGLC was expecting high traffic, but the influx of consumers shortly after the website still exceeded expectations. The website allows cannabis consumers to browse capsules, dried flower, milled flower (already ground), oils and pre-rolled joints.
