GEORGE TOWN: A student, who hanged herself after being accused of stealing her teacher’s handphone had confessed to “standing watch” while her schoolmate carried out the act, a Coroner’s Court heard. Paramasivam, 47, who questioned the girl, said Vasantha told him that she was only there to keep watch on the teachers’ movements. “She only confessed after I showed her the CCTV images from a disciplinary teacher’s handphone,” said Para­masivam. Another witness Zahratul Husna Zulkifli, 30, said she saw a student holding a handphone at the teacher’s table near hers. Non-governmental organisation Malaysian Tamilar Kural claimed that Vasantha tried to hang herself hours after being accused of stealing her teacher’s handphone.
