Besides recognising the contribution of the persons they have been named after, street names, especially those given during British India, serve as a historical ready reckoner. By merely retaining street and road names from the British-era, how can their historical significance be made known to the younger generations? Also, will the civic body keep changing the street names wherever TNPSC office gets shifted, in the interests of candidates from rural areas? * Retaining the existing British-era names of streets is also in public interest. An alternative to erasing old street names has to be found.
