An interesting theme is emerging, organically, from the show’s weekly episode production process (an insanely speedy schedule for an animated show). The episode “Band in China” managed to catapult South Park back into cultural relevance, while sparking public interest in China’s influence on American media. This week’s episode focuses on the increasing popularity of vegan food, and the inevitable side effects of mass-production. The leaked video, mirroring the disturbing footage that emerges from slaughterhouses, puts an end to Randy’s burger business, and reminds the audience that while vegan food can still be junk food, it is still slaughter-free.
