Last month, I wrote about health-care workers and muffin rage — the seething anger that rears its head when we are offered baked goods instead of workplace protections. They won’t feel shame or guilt, so even a good public drubbing is water — or snow — off their back. But the real kicker comes when the same politicians have the audacity to thank or praise health-care workers for their extraordinary service, while simultaneously ignoring their own role in the total destruction of the health-care system. While I can’t speak for Reyes’ wife, the rest of us don’t want his thanks as we shovel whatever he and his government have left for us to clean up. Governments transitioned seamlessly from banging pots and pans for health-care workers to expecting them to scrub whatever dirty dishes they keep piling in the sink.
