‘Sangathalaivan’ movie review: This idealistic take on an ideology lacks verve

The Samuthirakani-starrer wears its Communist shirt proudly but fails to sell its politics convincinglyIdealistic storytelling is flawed by default. ‘Sangathalaivan’ Director: ManimaranManimaran Cast: Karunaas, Samuthirakani, Marimuthu, Sunu LakshmiKarunaas, Samuthirakani, Marimuthu, Sunu Lakshmi Story line: A Communist leader fights capitalists for the welfare of unorganised workers and which leads to bloodshed. A tragic incident happens which leads to Rangan’s first brush with Communism, and its representative in the film, Sivalingam (Samuthirakani). However, Rangan happens to be on the side of ‘justice’, and so, eventually, he falls prey to the capitalist (also read as: casteist and elitist) forces. This is how Sangathalaivan ends up becoming an odd film.
