‘Region needs to invest more in clean energy’

0Windhoek - The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is half to achieving self-sustainable power production, and needs to invest more in clean energy, researchers have said. A report on renewable energy and energy efficiency indicates that the region has a 50 percent deficit in terms of access to power. The report is produced by the SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. At present, the Southern Africa generates around 71,950 megawatts and needs to double this to be self-sufficient. Instead, it says, governments and the private sector should focus on other forms of renewable energy, such as solar power generation.
